We reviewed this book for our martial arts of the month Escrima Stick Fighting. Having started reading I very quickly realised it was a book about Hwarang Do, the Korean Martial Arts rather than Filipino sticking fighting.
Even though this made me immediately disappointed I have the say the book is pretty good. It’s not a book for someone looking for pages and pages of philosophy and concepts, it only has 29 pages of text. It’s a book of techniques.
And it is jam packed with them. It’s very heavy on illustrations of techniques. Originally designed as a military book it actually transcends to anyone interested in self defence and weapons training.
Be warned though, this book is all about practicality and ‘what works’. There is much more martial than art.
